Jharsuguda: A fire broke out near the IOCL terminal building close to Veer Surendra Sai Airport on Monday noon but was contained within two hours, with no reported flight disruptions.Officiating airport director Upendra Nath Dhaundia said the AAI fire service received a call from IOCL around 12 noon reporting the blaze near the terminal area. Acting swiftly, a crash fire tender of the Airports Authority of India, along with an AAI ambulance, reached the site around 12.15 pm and immediately began firefighting operations.

The state fire service also responded promptly, sending one CFT to assist. However, strong winds spread the flames towards the pump house area, which in turn, prompted authorities to mobilise additional support. An additional CFT from the state fire service and another from Vedanta were deployed to strengthen the containment effort.Through coordinated action by AAI Fire Services, the state fire service and Vedanta teams, the fire was contained by around 2 pm.Officials confirmed that aircraft operations remained unaffected and all scheduled flights continued without interruption.
